WHITEWATER RAFTING New River Gorge, WV |
Often called The Grand Canyon of the East, the New River Gorge is one of the oldest rivers in the world and has been designated a National Treasure. 53 miles of this river and 40 miles of its tributaries are preserved as New River Gorge National River, which provide a wealth of scenic and recreational opportunities. |
The rocks, gradient, and narrow canyon walls in the New River Gorge create some of the biggest, boat crushing, high volume whitewater in the US. There are over 20 big water rapids ranging from Class III to Class V including Surprise, Keeney Brothers, Double Z, Greyhound, and Bus Stopper. |
The steep gorge walls and upland forest surrounding the canyon provide a stunning backdrop to the roller-coaster of 24 named rapids you hit in just over 13 miles. |
The New River is a "drop/pool" run with calm recovery pools below each major rapid, providing plenty of time for cutting up.
