BIKING Not the Natchez! Dad and I were supposed to ride the Natchez Trace. However, in what seems to be this summer's theme, those plans changed due to a Hurricane / Tropical Storm. So, we went for a ride on the Withlacoochee Trail insted. |
The Withlacoochee State Trail is a 46 mile long stretch of railroad track that has been converted to a paved trail. The trail corridor runs through several small towns and natural areas and provides an excellent look at rural Florida. There are ample facilities along the way and everything is well maintained The Withlacoochee State Trail is one of the best recreational trails in Florida. |
Dad still has the gear bags for the Natchez Trace mounted. Those two bags (containing a change of clothes and the camera) weigh more than Dad's bike. Then again, I have a pair of boots that are heavier than Dad's bike. |
With plenty of well planned and well maintained rest areas along the way, the Withlacoochee State Trail was a perfect fit for our riding strategy. By taking frequent breaks and maintaining a comfortable pace, the distance went by easily and was very enjoyable. |

On the bike riding along an uncrowded scenic trail with Dad. It just doesn't get much better than this.
Although this was a very good ride, we were both disappointed that our Natchez Trace plans had to be postponed. However, we both look forward to doing that (and many other rides) another time. |
