Yellowstone

Enormous (2,219,789 acres) - larger than Rhode Island and Delaware combined.

Astonishing Wildlife!

Home to one of the world's largest calderas with over 10,000 thermal features (geysers, steam vents, mud pots, and hot springs) In fact, half of the world's geothermal features are in Yellowstone!

Take a Hike, or Don't

There are 1,300 miles of hiking trails. However, many features are within a short walk from your car! You can't go wrong!

Yellowstone Lake

Yellowstone is the largest (132 square miles) high altitude (7,732 feet) lake in North America. It also hosts the largest population of wild cutthroat trout in North America. With an average water temperature of 41 degrees, swimming is out!

Awesome spot for a relaxing picnic and taking in the incredible scenery!

Mammoth Springs

The Mammoth Terraces are constantly changing shape and color as heated water carries dissolved calcium and bicarbonate to the surface where it precipitates as travertine.

Looks like a cave turned inside out!

Lower Falls and Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone
Lower Falls

Yellowstone has 290 waterfalls, but the 308 foot drop at Lower Falls is the showpiece. Below the falls is The Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. Together, they form one of the most breathtaking sights in the park.

Yellowstone Biscuit Basin
Biscuit Basin

Home to multiple small, gem-like encrusted hot springs and geysers. Most are crystal clear or sapphire blue and full of 200 degree water.

Warning Sign near Hot Springs in Biscuit Basin
Danger

This is a warning sign near Biscuit Basin. I love the Mom just pointing, the Dad obliviously enjoying his walk with his man purse, and the kid's hat popping off of his head.

So, the moral of this little diorama, don't wade into the boiling, hissing, noxious, steam vent!

Bull Elk in Yellowstone National Park
Wildlife

Yellowstone has the largest concentration of wildlife in the lower 48 states including bison, moose, elk, pronghorn, black bear, grizzly bear, wolf, bald eagle, and many, many more. Incredible!!!

Buffalo Crossing!
Old Faithful
Old Faithful! Old Faithful! Old Faithful!
Darrin at Old Faithful

Everyone has heard of Old Faithful. It is perhaps the most studied, photographed, and popular geyeser in the world. It erupts about every 92 minutes shooting water 135 feet into the air.

It is pretty cool, but there is so much more to Yellowstone than Old Faithful. Honestly, I would not even make my list of Top 5 Yellowstone Attractions!

Visit This Park!

Pictures and videos don't do it justice. There is no substitute to actually visiting. You absolutely have to visit Yellowstone!

I have never been anywhere else that made me so aware that the earth is alive!

I absolutely love this park!
